How to Go Natural

I wanted to go natural. It made a lot of sense. I wanted to stop poisoning my body, the bodies of my family and the environment but….

Shampoos, conditioners, moisturizers, shower gels and make-up are so very expensive. Was I going to just wash them down the drain? What a waste! Could I just throw them in the bin? I couldn’t do it. I hate waste. I hate poisoning my family. What could I do?

My solution was very practical. I used up the products I’d already purchased. I figured a couple more uses wasn’t going to make that much difference. When each item was used, I would only buy a natural alternative. It was practical and I didn’t have to buy all new products at once. The family didn’t even notice the difference.
I now use only natural products and I feel good knowing I’m doing my bit for the environment and I’m not exposing my family to as many chemicals as before.

The most surprising thing is the amount of money I now save. I use vinegar, bi-carbonate of soda and natural soap for cleaning. These simple, inexpensive products work as well as the expensive, harsh chemical based products and cost a fraction of the price.

The money we save goes into other practical activities. The children are helping to build an environmentally sound, no-dig garden. We are planting native trees, shrubs and flowers. The children found that trees are good cleaning our air and the smaller plants attract native wildlife. They share their interest in the environment with their friends at school. It is becoming a trend at school to find new ways to go natural. Let’s make it a worldwide trend!

Tips To Ensure You Use Suitable Sermon Illustrations

Preachers use sermon illustrations for two main reasons. One is to help explain the major factors of the sermon. And second is to add to the interest element of the sermon. If you intend to acquire the benefits of using sermon illustrations in your sermon, you need to make sure that you decide on the appropriate stories. You can utilize illustrations in your sermon but nevertheless don’t find any advantage from it. This is if you are not working with the appropriate illustrations.

So how can you guarantee that you put to use the correct sermon illustrations for your sermon? Here are tips to help make your sermon illustrations perform for you:

  • Utilize only stories that are really appropriate to your sermon. If the viewers will not be able to see the association between the illustration and your sermon, they will not obtain any advantage from the illustration. In fact, instead of clarifying the points of your sermon, your unrelated story may even cause confusion. And not to mention, it will just be another time consuming component. The illustrations must be appropriate to the topic. If the topic is love, utilize sermon illustrations on love. Or if the subject is Christmas, utilize sermon illustrations on Christmas.
  • As much as possible, make use of real life stories in your sermon. Your listeners will be able to associate more to the stories if they have happened to real people. For instance, if you are citing an illustration about patience, they will be able to understand that they too can be patient. If it is something that other people can do, your audience will comprehend that they can also do it. But if you put to use a make believe story, your hearers will not be able to completely associate with the lesson of the story.
  • Stay away from sermon illustrations that are too technical. A good rule of the thumb to keep in mind in using stories as part of the sermon is that if a story needs to be expanded so that the target audience will be able to grasp it, then it is not a good story. You don’t need to elucidate your stories. It is the role of the stories to help expand the sermon and not the other way around.

These tips will help ensure that you are not only able to choose the right illustrations for your sermon but you are also able to make those sermon illustrations that you have chosen work for you.
